Help Alix buy a mobility scooter

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Charlotte and I'm fundraising for my wonderful friend Alix, who is the kindest, most wonderful person you could ever meet. Alix can't work because of her multiple disabilities and she and her partner are dependent on benefits and struggling to get by.

Alix lives in terrible pain. It's chronic in that it has been going on for many years, but it frequently spikes to acute levels which leave her unable to sleep. Alix doesn't have access to car and she can't afford taxis, so in order to attend her many medical appointments she has to take public transport or walk with her crutches. Alix is only in her 40s, but due to her pain levels even short journeys take her many times longer than they once would have done when she was younger.

Alix suffers from degenerative disc disease in her spine, two in her lower back, one in the middle, and one in her neck, which causes underlying pain even when she is resting. Surgery for this is not an option because it is highly risky and could result in paralysis. On top of this, she also has painful arthritis in her lower back, as well as in her hands and knees and is waiting for the results of a recent knee X-ray as she has been in agony lately. It doesn't help that she has hypermobility joint disorder, which affects many of her joints throughout her body. Alix does ask her GP about pain medication, but is rarely given enough to make a noticeable difference.

As you can imagine, it is very hard for Alix to get out and about, and this gets her down. She already suffers from complex PTSD which affects her mood and sleep, and living in constant pain with little chance to socialise only exacerbates this. She also has to manage her diabetes, which can be difficult to control, and chronic asthma.

Getting a scooter would give Alix a completely new lease of life. She would be able to pop to the shops, get to her health appointments and join support and social groups, without making her pain worse and having to take hours to manage a simple task. Alix wishes wholeheartedly that she could pay for it herself, and worries about accepting financial help, but she truly deserves some respite from all the pain and worry.

If you can make a contribution, no matter how small, you can pave the way for Alix to have a better quality of life.
