Help Alix Finish Her Debut Album

Hi everyone,

I'm fundraising to finish mixing and mastering my album, with a hope and prayer that this can happen before our first baby is born this coming November / December!

Over the last two years I have written around 15 - 20 songs, which has come as a huge and beautiful surprise having never considered myself a songwriter before. With the help of my partner Michael, I have recorded and released 6 songs on Bandcamp, and there are several more songs that are partially recorded or nearly finished.

The time has come to gather my songs into an album with a consistent, coherent and beautiful overall sound. My songs are simple prayer songs and Mike's guitar has been wind beneath their wings. Many of the songs have become nearly duets between Mike and I; my voice and his guitar spirit weaving together.

For me song is the most powerful form of prayer. I have been deeply inspired to sing in Proto-Celtic, a kind of ancestral mother tongue made of the earliest traceable fragments of the Celtic languages, dating back around 4000 years. Dreaming with the sounds of Proto-Celtic has been a powerful vehicle for me to rekindle a connection with ancestral roots and indigeny.

Many of my songs are a soul response to the mystery and inspiration of whales. Likewise the spirit of the rose. And the purity of buddhist prayers for liberation from suffering for all beings. These things open and inspire my heart in song.

In my work as a birth doula I have witnessed what I consider to be the original sacred song ceremony of Creation. Honouring the sacred rite of passage of birthing is another theme reflected in my music.

It's important to me to create this album because, at the threshold of motherhood myself, the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, it feels like the time is perfectly ripe for these songs to be completed and released into the world.

Any monies raised will be used to hire a studio where Mike can mix the songs, and then hopefully we can pay to get the album professionally mastered.
