About the Birth Attendant School
Hello everyone!
As you might - or might not - know, I've always been drawn to pregnancy and childbirth, to infants and new mothers. I absolutely adore anatomy and physiology, women's health, and infant and maternal care. I love be involved in a hands-on way, and to see the incredible ways God works in the hearts of new mothers who didn't know him before. My passion to see God work through me in these areas has only grown, and I'm SO excited to have the opportunity to grow in these areas over the next year! The BAS is a specialized course teaching midwifery skills combined with faith-based care for mother and child. Like DTS, it consists of the Lecture Phase and the Outreach Phase; unlike DTS, the BAS is eleven months long (three on Lecture Phase, eight on Outreach) and includes advanced lectures while on outreach. Topics we'll cover in Perth include: anatomy and physiology, complications in pregnancy, care of the woman at birth, care of the newborn/normal postpartum, and primary health care, along with many others. We'll also be a part of hands-on skills workshops, learning how to apply our knowledge.
Although we don't yet know outreach locations, the BAS tends to travel a lot over their long outreach, typically visiting multiple nations in both Asia and Africa. We'll work in the clinics and hospitals of developing nations, as well as teaching at clinics, school, and the like. On outreach, we'll also be a part of an advanced lecture phase; while continuing to work in clinics or hospitals, we'll study the four main causes of death for women, from pregnancy to the postpartum period.
As I'm sure you can tell, I'm so excited to see the new ways in which God will use me as I grow in skill! I'm already here in Perth, but I have one final hurdle to cross: outreach finances. I've seen God work through people to provide for others time and time again, and now it's my turn to trust in His faithfulness. This is where you come in! If you'd like to partner with the work God is doing through me (in a way besides prayer), this is a very practical way! Anything and everything you choose to give will go either towards my school fees, or other mandatory expenses such as malaria medication.
