EMERGENCY RELIEF- Helene hit & Amandacera’s Spine is Injured
Donation protected
Update: First, thank you to everyone. We are safe but need HELP.
We are in shock- our whole city was just devastated by the storm in Asheville and almost everything we own is underwater. We posted this gofundme because of my spine injury and are now in full survival mode, having to travel in a neck brace and keep our child safe and calm. Your support is funding our lodging right now and we will be trying to get back in to bring supplies when it is safe.
Please send any help you can and SHARE this *please*.
his summer, just two days after our family found out that we will have to move by the end of October due to circumstances outside of our control, I sustained a severe traumatic spinal cord injury.
I am incredibly grateful to be alive and to have been told that I will heal in time, but the road is long and right now we need some support.
These past two months I have had to spend the majority of my time stuck at home in a cervical neck brace, unable to work, make food, ride in a car/leave my home, make art, or do most of the things that make up my daily life.
Anyone who knows me can imagine how upside down this must feel, and the impact on our family. I am a person who is always moving, always working, always on the go, always taking care of five things at once, and working several jobs to support my family and make a comfortable life for our daughter.
It’s very difficult for me to ask for help. Usually, I am the one extending a hand to others, being the support system, so it has been one of the hardest things I've had to endure in my life to relinquish so much of my autonomy and to require so much help in every area of my life.
Our need for immediate support is heightened by our short timeline for moving.
Being unable to work for over two months has cost us roughly $9,000, not including the extra that I had been bringing in from vending at markets which had become a weekly source of supplemental income.
I hope to have a clearer sense of the medical bills I am facing soon, but the medical billing system is both convoluted and time-consuming.
We are trying to raise $15,000 to start so that we can recover from the damage so far, and any more will help us to be able to relocate smoothly so that I can safely recover from this injury.
This includes:
$9,000 in lost income
$1,600 ambulance bill
$3,000-$5,000 nerve/rehabilitation treatment
This does not include:
-$20,000 hospital bill (that I am hoping will be brought down but am in a paperwork vortex, so I will have to update about that later)
-Cost of moving, storage, and short-term lodging while we situate permanent housing for our family
We are calling on our community to help us put the pieces together, and get back to good health and the stability that our family needs. These past couple of years I have been buried in motherhood/homeschooling, a new career path, and several health emergencies, so I've been a bit more out of touch than usual with even my closest friends, but my love remains so strong and vibrant for all of you. Since this has happened, so many of you have reached out to connect, catch up, and offer love and support, and I'm so grateful for every one of you.
I understand that this may be a trying time for so many people, so I humbly ask for any support you can offer—there is truly no gesture too small.
Thank you for helping us regain our footing. Our family could not get through this without all of your love, prayers, and offerings of support.
With all our love,
Amandacera, DeSha, and Coral
We will be shining this bright again soon!
