A Mother's Heartbreaking Plea: Save My Children to hope

Donation protected
Please help me ...

Hello, my name is Amani (30 years), a wife, mother, and human being from Gaza, and I am reaching out to you with a heart full of hope and desperation. My family has endured unimaginable horrors, and we are now struggling to rebuild our lives and find peace. My three beautiful children, Dana (7 years), Tala (5 years), and Osama (2 years), have faced more than any child should ever have to.

Our Story

We have lived in relentless struggle through these agonizing months of war—no water, no food, no electricity, no safe shelter, no hygienic conditions, no health insurance, no medicine, no healthy food, and no clean water. Our children have no safe environment to grow up in. This is the harsh reality we faced daily. We have been internally displaced more than 10 times, moving from place to place, corner to corner, desperately seeking safe shelter, clean water, food, and a moment of peace if possible. This constant displacement has ravaged our health and stripped us of all our belongings. There is no work there; opportunities are nonexistent, no funds come in, so there are no projects, We lived on scraps.

What truly shatters our hearts is seeing our children endure this horror and fear with their innocent minds, constantly wondering why they are being punished this way. They ask, "What did we do wrong? How can we be saved from this endless agony?" This leaves us, as their parents, in unbearable anguish, questioning what we can do to alleviate their suffering, to lift them out of this misery, and how we can possibly rebuild their lives amidst and after this war. Here are some of the hard situations they have endured, which left deep scars on their tender personalities.

At the start of the first day of the war, we waked freaking up from the sound of the missiles bombing which was around us by 20 m long and we all were running like crazy in our house don’t know what to do and where to run, I remember on missile exploded before hit our apartments and that cause some shrapnel entering my children bedroom and burned their window’s curtains and one of their blankets. And depending on that horror my daughter dana stayed raising her hand into the sky praying for our safety and with all of our power we couldn’t make her put them down and that’s the first time I saw my daughter in shock and first symptoms of trauma.

One harrowing day, my children faced death three times within an hour while we fled for our lives in Khan Yunis. The Israeli army invaded the area, and we were under constant threat. Sniper bullets whizzed past us as we clutched Osama, and my husband Mohanad urged us to run before the bullets hit us. Tank missiles exploded just ten meters away, causing Tala to freeze in terror for several minutes. Rubble fell from buildings struck by missiles, narrowly missing Mohanad. We ran five kilometers through this hellish scene, every moment feeling like a nightmare, with fear beyond comprehension. That day when we reach safety all of my children get fever and reached 40 degrees for 3 consecutive days and all my attempts to reduce it by the existed pain killer was failed and eventually, I learnt that fever was from the horror and fear not by illness, and Dana lost her ability to speech for the two days and frightened us to death.

this our neighborhood.

Another day, we felt our house shake as if by an earthquake. It was then that our children’s beloved grandfather faced a tank missile alone and was killed right before their eyes. My husband and Osama narrowly escaped the falling debris by millimeters, thanks to God's mercy. For two excruciating days, we couldn’t bury him, and his body remained with us, breaking our children’s hearts. We had to run for our lives for three kilometers under the explosions of over a hundred tank missiles in ten minutes, with fragments flying around us. It felt like a scene from an action movie, but this was our reality. The sheer number of missiles around us even caused one of the apartments in our building to be demolished and burned to ash.

My children are suffering from malnutrition, which has affected their health. The lack of healthy food and the consumption of canned food and preservatives have also affected my husband Mohanad and me. Everything is expensive, and we have no money to buy anything. There is no work available.

The Impact on Our Children and us

My children have witnessed unimaginable horrors. They now suffer from severe trauma, unable to sleep at night due to nightmares filled with the sounds of war. They cry often, are more aggressive, live in constant fear, and exhibit unusual behaviors and hyperactivity. Their innocent minds are scarred, and they desperately need psychological therapy and a stable environment to heal. They have lost their toys and clothes, and my husband lost his work and personal laptop, which he used for work. My children also need clothes, toys, and tools for psychological entertainment.

Dana was supposed to complete her first grade at UNRWA school, but unfortunately, she attended only a month and a half. She is a very smart and gifted child. I have witnessed her self-learning to write and read letters and count numbers to thousands by watching TV and YouTube channels and by her sheer curiosity.

Before this tragedy, my husband Mohanad (36 years) worked as a Program Coordinator at an international NGO focused on WASH and building and rebuilding infrastructure. He had a respectable job, a stable life, and a good reputation. He took pride in his work, which allowed him to support our family and contribute to our community. But the war changed everything.

Our Struggles

We are currently living in a small, cramped room of only twenty square meters, serving as our bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. The cost of living here is overwhelming, and my husband Mohanad lost his job and his laptop during the war, which was his tool for freelance work. Despite his physical injuries and back pain from carrying heavy loads, he tirelessly seeks ways to support us, but opportunities are scarce.

Amani’s Health Challenges

I face recurring health challenges, including abdominal pain exacerbated by previous food-related issues I experienced before leaving Gaza. Despite my medical needs, our lack of legal documentation complicates accessing healthcare. Regular visits to the doctor and ongoing medication are essential, adding significant financial strain, especially since our resources were depleted during our displacement. We urgently seek support to cover these medical expenses and improve our legal status. Any assistance would make a profound difference in my health and our family’s well-being.

The Journey to Safety

Before settling here, we were internally displaced 10 times within Gaza, moving from place to place, seeking safety. Each displacement drained our resources and shattered any semblance of stability we had left. When we finally made the decision to settle, it was with the help of a kind family member, but the war consumed most of our money, leaving us in a weakened position. The journey to safety consumed all that we had left, leaving us without means to support ourselves in this new environment.

Why We Need to Relocate to a Better Place

Our current situation is untenable. Without legal recognition, we cannot access proper healthcare, education (we can’t register Dana to school due to lack of papers and Tala for kindergarten), or housing. We are living day-to-day, struggling to provide for our children and fearing for their future. We desperately need to relocate to a country where we can live in peace and rebuild our lives. A move to Europe or another peaceful country would give us the opportunity to secure proper education and psychological support for our children, find stable employment, and live with dignity.
