Help Ami Foster and her family
Ami has just recently lost her eyesight at the age of 29. She had been experiencing a variety of symptoms since March 2021, without any diagnosis. During this time, Ami continued with her university studies.
Since September Ami has been back and forth between Alberta and Ontario working for the Alberta Healthcare Services and Trillium Long-Term Care Manor in Orillia, Ontario
Suddenly in mid July, Ami was hospitalized in Calgary with still undiagnosed symptoms. Within 72 hours of hospitalization, she lost her sight completely in her left eye and has extremely limited vision in her right eye.
Ami is a Registered Practical Nurse and had recently completed four years at McMaster University obtaining her Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology & Psychology, Neuroscience and Behavior. She has been also volunteering as a Nurse with St John Ambulance Barrie Simcoe Muskoka.
Ami was pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor, when this tragedy struck. The loss of her eyesight and other symptoms turned out to be the result of a severe and aggressive form of vasculitis, which requires constant and continuous medical care and medication.
The Medical system requires Ami to return to Ontario for further treatment and family support.
Now with Ami’s inability to work or drive due to her vision loss, her student debt, medical expenses, and travel expenses, have been very financially difficult on Ami and her family, not to mention the unforeseen expenses of upcoming medical procedures and the costs of moving and getting her settled into a new life with visual impairment.
Ami’s Dad flew out to be with her during this difficult time. This has added more financial strain due to having to take time away from work.
Ami and her family appreciate any help you feel you can give and thank you for your support.
Also, Melissa and James Foster, her parents, would like to reach out and say many thanks to our family and friends for supporting us through this difficult time. Our spirits are hopeful, and the love is felt.
