In Loving Memory of Tristan James Guajardo

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming loving response received during this harrowing time as we cope with Tristan’s passing. He was an amazing person who brought joy, laughter and inspiration to those he encountered in his brief 36 years. He will forever be sorely missed.
Tristan battled addiction throughout his adult life and bravely confronted these issues during the last year and a half of his life. Prior to his death, he worked to assist those struggling with addiction to use sobriety, the 12-step program, group therapy, as well as other skills and tools to combat this terrible disease. He also shed light on the illness’s impact on family and friends and worked to de-stigmatize the shame associated with addiction.
Due to difficult personal circumstances, he relapsed the week of January 14th. Early morning Monday, January 21, 2019, he overdosed on what is currently believed to be a lethal dose of a barbiturate-laced pill-form drug (toxicity report pending). Most disheartening, Tristan was scheduled to be admitted into a rehabilitation facility later that morning; thus, following the familiar pattern of death among those suffering from addiction.
The timing and unfortunate circumstances of Tristan’s passing was a surprise to all of us and the financial burden of his funeral arrangements is significant. Many of you have offered your support and have asked how to assist the family as they navigate the difficult road ahead. We offer you the opportunity to honor and support Tristan’s memory through a donation to offset his final arrangements.
