Help Amy & Andrew Save Jackpot from FIP
Donation protected
We are Amy & Andrew, and we are fund raising to cover the expenses that we have incurred in treating our big, handsome 2 1/2 year old Maine Coon cat, Jackpot, who has Feline Infectious Peritonitis. better known as FIP. FIP used to be a death sentence for cats, but great strides have been made in the last few years, and it is now treatable but not always curable.
Jack was first diagnosed with FIP in January of 2023, when he was ~7 months old & weighed about 12 lbs. Treatment at that time was 84 days of one injection per day with an unapproved anti-viral medication called GS-441524. This treatment, while expensive and difficult to administer at times, began working almost immediately and within a couple of weeks, we had our boy back to his usual kitten self & his weight was up 16+ lbs. After the 84 days of treatment, and another 84 days of observation, he was declared cured around June 20th.
Everything was going well until recently, when we noticed that he was becoming more & more lethargic and had lost some weight. On 11/23, we took him to Central Vet Hospital in Guilford, CT, where he stayed for 3 days and was once again diagnosed as having FIP, which is quite unusual but does happen.
The treatment is once again 84 days of medication, although now the drug is now approved and can be administered in pill form. Dosage is weight dependent & with Jack now weighing more that 20 lbs, the cost is significant. But the results are truly amazing, as Jack is now running around as only a young kitten can, and the transformation began almost immediately.
We didn't think twice about bringing him in, because we had pet insurance for him that would cover a good portion of the expenses. However, the claim has been denied, as is typical for insurance these days. They claim it is a pre-existing condition and also that FIP is incurable, which it is not true.
As mentioned, the costs are considerable and the medication itself is $16 per pill, and he gets 3 pills a day for the 84 days. That is why we are coming to you, asking for your help in defraying these costs.
