Help An Artist Stuck in Sudanese War zone
Donation protected
I am Sidahmed Shaker and I am Sudanese. I am a visual artist and photographer, working primarily in oil paintings focusing on figurative and fine art. I support my family through art as it is my only way of making a living.
When the war broke out in Khartoum on 15 April 2023, I lost my studio and my paintings. I was displaced to several areas and then to the Al Gazira state with the family, but the militia invaded it once again. After they shot my uncle and stole everything we had, as well as beating us and threatening us, we had to escape again to the open land.
My family gathered everything they had so I could escape to a safer place to continue my work and be able to support them, but I got attacked by the militia on my way out. They took all I had, ripped my passport from me, and left me with nothing. I managed to reach the state of Kassala, Sudan after several weeks of not being able to contact my family. I was finally able to contact them, but they were in worse conditions, suffering from a severe shortage of food and medicine. They were forced to displace and flee once again, where they were attacked by the militia again.
I hope to use this fundraising to provide enough to get my family out of the war zone, and to return to making art again. I believe that I have something to say through my art and wish to pursue my art career, so please help me get my family to safety. You can help us not only get my family out of the war zone, but also help a dying artist.
