Help! Private teachers at Wild Spirit in Saskatoon unpaid

Hi, my name is Erika. My daughter was attending a private preschool for several months when I found out that her teachers were missing significant pay.

There was a lot of turnover of these teachers, as they were recruited, unpaid, quit (or were fired), and recruited again.

My heart broke. I couldn't believe that I was dropping my daughter off, paying my fees, and meanwhile the very teachers who were caring for my daughter did not receive their pay! I would not have guessed as they were greeting my daughter with love, warmth, and smiles. Until they were no longer there and a new teacher was.

Once I found out I stopped taking my daughter. And I was left thinking, how can I help? This is terrible!

Well, the cases are going through the formal procedure with the Labour Relations Board and Employment Standards in Saskatchewan.

But guess what? If there is no money to recover from the employer, then they are out of luck!

Many of these teachers are newcomers to Canada. This is not the welcome they should receive!

The families taking their children have been paying their fees. I hope the families can contribute a little extra to this fundraiser, what they can, but we also need the larger community to chip in to help cover these unpaid wages.

The list of teachers is growing, as are the unpaid wages. There are well over 10 teachers and over $40,000 owed. This may never be recovered from the employer.

I am working closely with the teachers. We have a list and will distribute the funds raised proportionately. We are also hoping to raise a fund for legal costs as there are legal proceedings. Any extra amount raised above the outstanding wages owed will go towards the legal costs and then to the teachers - some have been waiting for thousands for several months...

If you can't contribute funds, you can help us by spreading the word. Funds raised will go direct to these warm, loving, positive teachers who made our children so comfortable, and now it is time for them to feel cared for!
