My name is Dr. Samson Arigbamu. I am a nurse practitioner and a director of nursing of a health rehabilitation center for about 15 years. In 2018, I established a private practice (Upsurge Health associates LLC). The clinic provides general medical care to the adult and geriatric population in the Baltimore city metropolitan.
With over 20 years of experience as a healthcare provider, I have seen physicians, nurses and students struggle to correctly identify lung and heart sounds. As a result, interrogative tests such as chest x-rays, EKGs and echocardiograms are often deployed to identify adventitious sounds and conditions. The clinical issue with these expensive tests is that, they are incapable of providing immediate feedback. Lack of such capability often results in significant delay in treatment and rapid health decline of the patients.
Consequently, I invented a digital stethoscope capable of identifying lung and heart sounds, interpret the sounds and announce its findings immediately to its users. The stethoscope will serve as an effective and expeditious assessment tool to healthcare providers and novice users to timely identify changes in lung and heart conditions. The stethoscope is also equipped with capabilities for electronic medical record (EMR) integration (essential to telemedicine) that is critical to care coordination and patient information portability.
The stethoscope is currently in prototype phase. As a sole inventor with minimum number of investors in this half a million dollar project, I decided to sought crowd funding in order to expedite its completion. The stethoscope has all the capabilities needed to revolutionize the basic tool of medical assessment. It could also be helpful in promptly identifying Covid-19 adventitious lung sounds.
