Help a Jamaican Homeless Shelter stay open!

We are the Portland Rehabilitation Management Homeless Shelter based in Portland, Jamaica, dedicated to supporting homeless individuals and those struggling with mental illness. Our shelter is unique as our reach stretches to nearly half of the island. Currently, we provide shelter, clothing, and meals to over 40 residents, and 36 others who come daily, while also offering rehabilitative services to homeless individuals across Jamaica.
Many of our residents have endured abuse, mental health challenges, illness, and substance use disorders. To help them heal and rebuild their lives, we provide not only counseling and healthcare but also creative and entrepreneurial activities that foster self-love and self-confidence. Our main goal is to rehabilitate most of them in order to, when possible, reintegrate them in their families and communities.
However, maintaining these vital services comes with significant costs, and unfortunately, the recent hurricane caused major damage to our shelter. We have been operating for decades, but today we urgently need your support to continue serving our residents and offer a quality services, that only qualified professionals can provide.
Your donation will directly fund our essential services-helping to pay our staff, including nurses and counsellors, providing food and shelter, and facilitating rehabilitative programs.
One-third of our budget is dedicated to food and bedding, another third to staff salaries, and the rest supports the programs that empower our residents to rebuild their lives.
A donation of $25 will cover meals for residents and non-residents.
A donation of $50 will cover a week’s basic necessities for one resident.
A donation of $100 will help two residents.
A donation of $200 will directly fund entrepreneurial activities, such as raising chicken for residents to earn extra-cash.
A total of $35,000 enables us to provide essential services to our residents. With $45,000, we could expand our rehabilitation efforts, offer entrepreneurial courses, and, importantly, enroll more residents in remedial education or vocational training. Currently, only a few participants are involved due to the high costs, limiting our capacity to reach more residents.
Then, help the Portland Rehabilitation Management Shelter raise $45,000 to keep our doors open, ensuring our residents remain safe, healthy, and supported!
With your help, we can continue this important work.
Stay blessed,
One love!
