Funeral expenses for my Brother

Hello, my name is Lori Dunn and it is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we will be laying my older brother Steven Garrison to rest.
During this time of grief having to endure funeral expenses that we had never planned for is devastating.
I had to make the hard decision to stop all life preserving measures in order to give him a pain free and humane ending.
A little bit about Steve. He was married to a lovely woman for 40 years. So Ula passed about 3 years ago from advanced liver disease. Up to that point she was Steve's entire focus for several years while she was sick. They moved to SLC Utah from their home in Eureka NV. so she would be there for a possible liver transplant that was never gonna happen. Since she passed, all of the issues Steve had came roaring to the forefront. Primarily advanced stage kidney disease. That and complications from his diabetes is what he died from. I had to make the decision to put him on hospice care and stop all dialysis treatments because for the last two weeks he was unresponsive and in tremendous pain. The treatments were not helping. So putting him on hospice they were able to treat his pain and make it so he was pain free and comfortable. This allowed his body to relax and finally let go. This was a decision I NEVER thought I would have to make in regards to my brother. I'm devastated.
The couple had no children but leave behind many cousins, nieces and nephews from both side of the family. He is survived by two sisters, Lori Dunn and Peggy Frye.
Steven was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in southern California. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He served as a sonar man on the “point of no return” patrol in the mid Pacific and also at the Captain of the Port office in San Francisco, California. After leaving the Coast Guard Steven worked many jobs in law enforcement. He was with the Humbolt County Sheriffs office, Winnemucca, Nevada and the Elko City Police, Elko, Nevada. He also served as security at several gold mines in the state. He retired from the US Postal Service having worked in Tonopah, Nevada and as the Post Master in Gabbs and Eureka, Nevada.
Steven and Ula were members of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. During their marriage they hosted several foreign exchange students many of whom stayed in contact for many years. Steven was an avid science fiction fan and was always reading a new book. He was also an avid outdoorsman and active and well known on several bush craft forums. He collected knives and firearms.
We will miss you and always remember your always present irreverent and sharp sense of humor. You could always make us laugh. We love you.
Any help either monetarily or just sharing this would be greatly appreciated during this difficult time.
