Help Andrè Fight the Long-Term Effects of Cancer
We celebrate the life and survival of our dear friend and Very Black co-creator, Andrè Singleton. As he continues to fight the long-term effects of cancer (while battling a racist, capitalist medical system), he is accepting love gifts to help offset recent essential medical and living expenses.
A Message From Andrè:
no one warned me of the intense ass long term side-effects. that coupled with already long existing anti-Black racism, homophobia, classism, elitism, and the list goes on. not to mention i am an artist so already i see/feel the world very acutely and specifically. i’m struggling typing this because my vision has been hard. and above all, folks just won’t listen to me. i speak and folk are ready with a rebuttal, advice, something to fix... all i have not just wanted and desired but have NEEDED is some serious and sincere listening. and just like for many years i’d say the world will one day be facing what i and countless others go through with our bodies and the MISTREATMENT of/by others... no one listened. HELLO PANDEMIC! HIIIIII COVID19! and it ain’t even a told you so. it is from lived and dying experience/s of me and others. so yeah, i’m gonna conclude this cause it’s too much strain for my eyes. [email redacted]holas took this photo of me above in her quad after i dropped moma off at the airport. still here. bereaving. hurting. feeling. *sigh* i am thankful to be alive but it still sucks. hopefully someone is listening and caring. i need a debt jubilee. medical and student loans. any offerers? folks keep asking/saying they want to help. here’s a start. i’m being sincere too. between the reparations that haven't happened and the inheritance of economic hardship from cancer and it's toll... shit BEEN real. please, don't try and "cheer me up". i bet i am saying something that rings true for/to you or someone in your life. and PLS don't tell me, "i/others are going through it too", "it's a pandemic", "things can be worse",... all that - YEAH, none of that. trust me. i know. and that response is more than predictable but the epitome of gaslighting. x
