Help Andrea & Tyler (Andy & Mend)
Donation protected
Many of you likely already know Andrea and have had the pleasure of experiencing her loving, humorous, caring nature first hand. For those of you who have not had the good fortune to make her acquaintance, she is truly a remarkable person who has, unfortunately, recently encountered tough times. We hope you will consider donating to help this person we love so much. Here is her story:
Andrea Batchelder started her battle with cancer while attending UNH. During the summer leading into her senior year she was diagnosed with a form of ovarian cancer. She kept pace with her peers and graduated on time despite the challenges, showing the strength of her resolve. Cancer has been a part of her life to a varying degree since, and despite aggressive treatment early on, it has spread. In April 2019, she was admitted to the hospital and has been in and out since that time. Andrea is currently undergoing treatment facilitated by Dana Farber in Boston and receiving inpatient care at Brigham and Women's in Boston when needed. When she is able and feeling well enough, she has been staying at her parents in nearby Charlestown.
We are continually humbled by the resilience our friend has displayed through the entirety of this ordeal. She has been facing obstacles that are impossible for us to comprehend. Her will and strength of spirit in the face of this monster has been downright remarkable to witness. In the last few weeks alone, she has recovered from a serious bowel perforation and subsequent infection. And just recently began simultaneous chemotherapies in an effort to not only continue to combat the disease, which is showing susceptibility, but hopefully reverse its course altogether!
Her loving fiancé, Tyler Mendenhall, recently stepped away from work to be there to love and support her full-time. Andrea has been on short-term disability since April 2019. They have both left their home and work in Lebanon, NH and are now in the Boston area full-time to ensure Andy is receiving the care she needs. These unforeseen changes however have come at a financial cost. This is where we believe we can help them most: by doing our best to ease some of those economic pressures. By doing this, you help take one small thing off their plate and allow their focus to remain on what's important; getting Andy well.
These funds are needed as soon as possible, as they are intended to alleviate the financial burden this has put on these two awesome people. They have already had to resort to utilizing some of the funds that were slated for their wedding ceremony. As you can imagine (or at least pretend to) this is a very difficult time. Maintaining physical and mental wellness in the current circumstances requires all of their attention, this is a very small piece of the puzzle we can collectively help them place.
These funds are intended to defray cost of living and additional medical expenses. As much as we all would hope to live in a world where circumstances like this would allow for flexibility, their rent still comes due every month, as do bills and other expenses not directly related to Andy's treatment. Their lovely pup Arya and goofy cat Tormund still need to eat and see the vet. It's pretty easy to understand how quickly bills stack up when you're not able to work.
It is important to note that Andy & Mend have an incredible network of friends and family supporting them. This goal is meager in comparison to the true costs of what they're going through. We’ve put a good deal of thought into how we could be of the most help to them and arrived at this solution. This fund is intended to provide short term relief and help with some debts accrued throughout this most recent challenging period. We may elect to increase this goal at a later time depending on changes to the situation and/or response to this post.
