Help our sister Drea be home with her family

Donation protected

On May 25th, 2020, our sister Drea had a horrible  diving accident. She experienced a C6 burst fracture along with other extensive damage and fractures to the spinal cord. The amazing first responders and doctors at Loma Linda University hospital saved our sister with emergency surgery. The result is Drea is currently left with paralysis while her body works to recoup.

On June 25th, insurance decided to send our sister home with extensive cares needed. At this time, the home is challenging because we can not fit the required equipment into her bedroom or bathroom (hospital bed, hoyer lift, tub buddy equipment, etc.) Drea is currently in a hospital bed in the living room and has no privacy for her cares.  Cares are needed 24 hours a day every 2 hours. A skilled caregiver is necessary for Drea to remain home with her children and husband.

Dreas medical insurance covers supplies, but they are not adequate. The expenses are mounting. Insurance will send a caregiver with a co-pay cost of $30 per visit, per person, per day. 2 caregivers are needed each day (one day, one overnight) so her husband can return to work and continue to pay the everyday bills. At this time, 2 sisters are providing the care, however both live out of state and must return home soon.

Drea has many doctor visits upcoming as she fights her battle. Due to needing special equipment to leave her house for appointments, she can not be transported in a regular vehicle. Medical specialized transport is required at a cost of $175 for each trip.

As the bills rise, we are fearful that we will not be able to keep Drea at home with her family. Drea desires the opportunity to continue to mother her children at their home. The alternative to paying the large cost to keep her home is a nursing home. For this fantastic mother of 4, a nursing home is out of the question!!!! If Drea were to return to a hospital or nursing home, she would become very depressed which is bad for healing. This is her biggest fear, not being with her family. While at the hospital for 1 month, she was never allowed a visitor due to COVID. She can not bear that loneliness again.

We are asking for your help to keep our sister safely at home with her family while she fights the battle of her life! Her children need her and she needs them!!!!! It’s imperative she remains at home to keep her spirits up while she fights to possibly regain some mobility over time.

Needed things:

Bathroom and bedroom remodel (remove walls, move doors, etc),  at an estimated cost of approximately $10,000

Caregiving/LPN cost of $60 co pay per day approximately $15,000 for one year (weekends not included) so her husband Robert can continue to work.

Supplies not covered: gloves, wipes, sterile water, attends, chucks, sharps containers, etc: approximately $200 per month.

Miscellanous costs including childcare when family isn’t available.

For those of you who don’t know Andrea Lopez, she is the kind of mom every kid would want. She is the kind of mom who gets down and plays with her kids and tries to enrich their lives with adventure while allowing them to just be kids. Drea has a happy personality and loves loves having family and friends around. For a living, she takes care of adults with disabilities and ensures they feel loved and valued. Now it’s our turn to make Drea feel loved and valued and to keep her home with her beautiful family. We thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts for any help you can give. If you are not in a position to help financially, please share. We believe in the power of God, the universe, and good healing energies even from strangers, so love is appreciated too!

We promise to keep everyone posted on Drea’s progress.

July 1,2020: Drea had an incredible day yesterday!!!! She felt sensation in her middle area and she felt pains in her hands!!!! This is incredible because she could not feel that before yesterday! Pain is a feeling so we are celebrating that! Last night however, she was really feeling the depression of being unable to move.  She is struggling with what her own value and contribution to her family is. She wants to play with her children and do their hair. We are working hard today to celebrate the good things and remembering that we still have her with us!
