On August 9th, 2023, a devastating fire swept across the serene landscape of Maui, leaving in its wake a trail of destruction that consumed homes, businesses, and cherished historical landmarks.

Among the countless lives altered by this unprecedented tragedy, our close friend Andrew, affectionately known to many as Krouse, lost his home. Stripped of nearly all his possessions, Andrew was left only with his phone, wallet, and the clothes on his back.

For years, Andrew has lived on Maui, embracing a simpler existence that many of us yearn for. His days are spent navigating the ocean aboard a sailboat, leading snorkel tours and charter events. During his time off, Krouse also enjoyed kiteboarding, and enthralling an online audience as the charismatic Twitch streamer, Mauikrouse.

Just weeks ago, over the course of the 4th of July weekend, my family and I had the privilege of immersing ourselves in Andrew's cherished way of life. As we strolled through the picturesque streets of Lahaina, his palpable connection with the local community became evident through the warm exchanges of Aloha. We had the chance to explore his town and visit the home he had made for himself. Nestled in a studio behind a surf instructor's dwelling, Krouse had meticulously set up his new streaming arrangement – a source of immense pride. Everything in his apartment was lost: a bed, a wardrobe of clothes, essential bathroom provisions, and the treasured kiteboard that epitomized his identity. This was more than just a living space; it was his sanctuary.
