Help Angela and her family’s road to recovery

My name is Kerstin, and I have been apart of this family for almost twelve years. I know it’s a long read but I’m asking for your help. The entire Scognamiglio family is always there in a time of need or to offer a helping hand. Right now they need your help. Angela whom we all know and love, with her big personality and sarcastic but hilariously amazing personality needs your help as she is fighting for her life and to be able to be with her husband and daughter again.

Whether or not you have had the pleasure to know Angela, she is sure to put a smile on your face. She would give the shirt off her back to help anyone in need, she is currently fighting for her life in a battle due to complications of Covid. So, I am asking now for your help for the person that has always been there when you need her and that would help anyone she could. Her family is struggling more then ever, let alone during one of the most stressful times of the year.

We have started this page to ease some of Angela's burdens, as she has been out of work since August.

With what started as sinus congestion at the beginning of September, quickly turned into a respiratory infection. On September 28th she went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with pneumonia and treated with steroids and fully reliant on oxygen. After six days in the hospital, she was finally able to go home. Once she was home, she could not keep a fever down less than 103.

On October 3rd she was admitted back into the hospital where they determined she has a specific type of pneumonia is not responding to antibiotics, only steroids. After several tests, x-rays, CAT scans, blood work, infectious disease doctors, pulmonology, and general medicine doctors, it was determined her condition was a complication of a previous case of covid. With high does of steroids she was able to be at room air and was sent home on October 15th. After being home less than a week her blood sugar spiked dangerously high due to all the steroids. They were back and forth from the hospital from there.

On the morning of November 19th her husband Shawn was complaining of chest pains and numbness in his arms. She knew something wasn’t right and took him to the emergency room. He nearly had a heart attack and ended up with three stents put in his heart. Shawn was able to come home on November 24th but unfortunately after a follow up chest Xray Angela returned to the hospital that same day, this time she was on four liters of oxygen. They began treating her again and did a lung biopsy which showed extreme inflammation. On December 4th things took a turn for the worst she was already on 3-4 liters of oxygen, but her oxygen levels bottomed out. She is now showing signs of silent aspiration and has been moved to the ICU where she is being tested to see if she is aspirating without a choking sensation.

Her biopsy cultures have been sent to the Mayo clinic and we should receive results in a week or so. As of right now there is still not a 100% diagnosis, but Angela will not be leaving the hospital anytime soon.

There family has been through so much in the past few months, with her being out of work and Shawn being out for some time as well due to his heart. The cost of all of this as been astronomical and aside from Christmas, medical bills alone, mortgage, groceries and taking care of Sophia. The Scognamiglio family is doing everything they can to help, but I’m hoping this will give Angela and her family a little piece of mind to pay bills and give Sophia her teenage daughter some hope for her return home to be an easy one during this horrible battle Angela is fighting day in and day out.

PLEASE please share this and hopefully we can help them as much as we can. Even if you can’t donate, please share this link, any little bit counts.
