Help Anita Get Her Book Edited

Donation protected
Hi everyone! As some of you know, I wrote a book on my life called Troublemaker: The Life and Times of an Intersectional Activist. That was 4 years ago, and so much has changed that I need to have serious editing done, almost a rewrite.

So many people have told me that I need to tell my story as a disability rights and justice activist who participated in the historic Capitol Crawl and who was arrested 139 times fighting for the civil and human rights of disabled people.

Follow my journey from a shy child, an idealistic teenager, and a mousy 21-year-old, to the loud and powerful activist that I’ve become.

My health is seriously declining and I want to get this book out before I am unable to do so.

I need an editor who will be able to work closely with me and help me to really make my book interesting, then, I’ll need to get it published. I’ll most likely need an agent, but I want to get the book edited first.

A good editor can be expensive and I’ve heard quotes of $60-$65/hr. I figure that I shouldn’t need more than 40 hours of editing, so $2500 should be enough.

Help me make my dream of writing and publishing a book on my life and disability activism! Any donation will help my dream come true.

Update:

I want to thank all of you who donated and shared this. I’m almost halfway to my goal!

I’ve started going over the book a little at a time, making some edits. With the way things are going, I can see myself holding this book in my hands by year’s end, or sooner!

Update: In going over the book and being honest that it needs a lot more work and therefore, more editor hours and commiserate pay, I’ve increased the goal. After all, if this book is going to be AMAZING and pure FIRE, I must do what needs to be done!

Thank you SO much to all of my donors and supporters! I love and appreciate you all!

Update: I have an editor! She’s had the manuscript a few days. She’s read the first few chapters, suggested a format change that I agree with, and has sent some notes.

Here’s her first impression so far:

“My first response during my initial read (without notes) was that I got lost in reading it. I didn’t want to stop because it all felt new and fresh. I think that even your oldest friends will read this and see a part of you that maybe they didn’t see before. More importantly, I felt like you were telling me a story as opposed to me reading one. It has that feeling like two friends are just sitting down talking and that’s something that is rare, so I love that it’s here.”

Thoughts directly from my editor!

Now I’m really excited! Thanks to all of you for your donations and support. Let’s keep this momentum going!

Update 3/20/22: I recently had another meeting with my editor and was able to respond to my first invoice. My editor is excited. Here’s her second thoughts:

“I feel like Troublemaker is off to a good start and now that the initial readthrough and the notes are done, we can really get started! In the coming days we will be able to go through the material and finalize each section and your book will be done! I am both humbled and excited to be working on a project of such importance!”

I’m also working on our website and will update you on it’s progress.

Thanks to all of you who have supported, donated and spread the word!
