Help Anita's Recovery After Tragic Accident

Donation protected

Hello, I am sure many of you have heard the news of Anita Featherstone (Morris) being involved in a head-on accident with a drunk driver. On Sunday afternoon, March 30th, she was leaving the Crosby/Houston area, heading to visit her daughter and grandsons. She was driving and missed her turn, and she was rerouted down a two-lane road she doesn't normally travel. As she was driving, she saw a car headed towards her in the other lane. She saw his tire slip off the road, and then everything went black. The next thing she remembers is waking up in the car (thinking she was dying). She was struggling to breathe and was in severe pain. With the help of a "good samaritan" that yielded, he was able to help her get out of the car and contact her family. She was not able to walk as part of her foot was missing with the bone exposed. Her sons (Michael & Matthew) arrived at the scene moments later and were informed by the responding officers that she was hit by a drunk driver and would need to be airlifted to Memorial Hermann Medical Center. She arrived at the hospital and was immediately rushed to trauma where they performed X-rays and CT scans to determine the extent of her injuries. She sustained major injury to her right foot and hand, with her right foot having a compound fracture with the heel crushed and her right hand also fractured. They were able to splint her hand but required emergency surgery on her right foot. She had many other contusions and bruises all over her body. She went into surgery several hours later where they cleaned out the wound, performed a nerve block, and set the foot. This is only step one in a very long road to recovery. She will need to have at least two more surgeries on her right foot. Her next surgery will not happen for at least two weeks because the swelling must go down. She is not able to put pressure on her right foot for two months. She will require physical and occupational therapy to learn how to walk again. Due to the nature of the injuries, she will not be able to use a walker, crutches, or a scooter for a couple of months. Unfortunately, the individual that hit her was driving an unregistered vehicle without insurance and has no license. He also was undocumented. Thankfully, they confirmed with blood tests that he was intoxicated, and Harris County will be bringing charges. Anita is self-employed and will not be able to work for months, and her medical bills are already piling up. Anything you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you all for hearing our story. God bless.
