Help Anna’s family with end of life expenses.

Hello everyone,

I am fundraising to help cover costs associated with my mom’s end of life.

My mom was murdered in Miami, Florida on 06/26/2024. She arrived to the hospital on an intubation and was pronounced brain dead on 06/29/2024.

My mom had been houseless and missing for ten years. She originally went missing from Dallas, TX in 2014. I had been trying to find her ever since.

My mom was a diagnosed paranoid bipolar schizophrenic with dissociative identity disorder who has been failed by our system.

I am the last of kin and had to take some time off to fly to Miami to handle her remains. My biological dad left when I was 5, my brother died last year because someone turned in front of his motorcycle, and my mom’s parents disowned her when she became mentally ill, before later dying, so the burden of her death has fallen on me. I don’t have a lot of money, and would really appreciate any help in paying for funeral and cremation services, a headstone, a probate attorney to take control of her estate, medical bills, travel (CO-FL-TX taking the remains from Florida to Texas),etc.

My mom suffered from severe mental illness, and had been houseless and missing for almost 10 years. My mom was a paranoid bipolar schizophrenic with dissociative identity disorder. My mom had multiple personalities that each had their own timelines and stories. Most of her personalities never had kids, so my brother and I eventually became strangers to her. She wasn't always that way. Her mental illness started after she gave birth to my brother and came down with terrible postpartum depression that dug up years of childhood abuse she had endured and eventually led her to a total mental breakdown. She divorced my step-dad and unfortunately,  never signed HIPPA paperwork to allow us to help her. I am also not her legal guardian nor am I her power of attorney, so the Miami County Police Department and every other department I've ever talked to wouldn’t even add my phone number to her file for when they did find her. I even moved from Delaware back to Texas at one point to try to help her, and she disappeared only a few months later due to her mental illness. Every single mental institution that she has been in has been closed down due to defunding. Our system is getting rid of mental institutions and trading them for for-profit prisons. It's a disgrace, and we need to do better as a society. Please, think twice before being rude to the houseless. You have absolutely no idea what they are going through.

My mom was so beautiful and full of life before mental illness started to break down her psyche.

Anna Jean Mathis was born on March 16, 1969 and brought two beautiful children, Johnny Henry Davis IV and Heather Christine Sherman, into this world. You were a gentle mother who showed patience even when you struggled to hold onto reality. Your love for animals, dancing, music, and people was evident throughout your life. You taught me invaluable lessons, like how to see beyond skin color, how to stand up for what’s right, and how to understand the power of love.

Although life brought you challenges, especially with your mental health, I will always remember you for your kindness and compassion for others. You were not defined by your struggles, but by your beautiful smile, caring attitude, and infectious laugh. Your spirit was resilient, and your heart was pure.

When you became an organ donor, you became a hero, giving others the gift of life. Your legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on through them.

I will miss you deeply, but I will hold onto the wonderful memories we shared and the lessons you taught me. You will forever be in my heart.

Thank you to everyone who can lend a helping hand during these difficult times.

God bless.
