At the age of five, my Aunt, Anne Viser Scoggin, began playing piano at my Grandma’s prompting. That prompting from a mother whose God-given intuition for Anne’s talents and future paid off. Anne went on to receive her Bachelor’s in music with a major in piano at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and a Masters in Piano performance and pedagogy from Meredith College.
Anne lives in the Louisburg, North Carolina area and is well known in her beloved community. For decades she has been a nationally certified teacher of piano, having taught at Campbell University for 5 years and at the Raleigh Conservatory for Music for 25 years. And at 92, she continues to teach at Music Academy South in Wake Forest as well as from home, quite adeptly through Zoom, during the pandemic, doggedly handling all things technology related. Her students adore her as well as her church where she serves as organist.
Anne is a strong and constant presence, very comfortable in her own skin, full of wisdom and practicality, good humor and wit. Surrounded by the most amazing community of people, they all care for my Aunt very deeply, which has been wonderful since she and my Uncle never had children of their own. Anne’s only sibling, my Dad, passed away suddenly in his sleep in 2017 and that has left a hole in her heart that will never be filled. The rest of Anne’s nieces and nephews are scattered around the western US, so her close-knit community there has been a real answer to prayer.
On November 11, Anne unexpectedly fell coming home from grocery shopping. Her foot was broken very badly which required surgery and Anne must now spend quite a bit of time in rehab. Due to the lack of coverage from her managed care insurance plan, she has been forced to go into private pay rehab for a couple months or longer, at a cost of $258 per day. Anne lives by modest means as many seniors do and her life’s savings will not take care of everything, leaving her with nothing. I am hoping donations may be able to help with these expenses so Anne can avoid going on to Medicaid.
Anne's church has already stepped up and built a ramp for Anne’s home. This type of thoughtful generosity never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I am so grateful for the tremendous blessing of those who truly care for my Aunt and for the legendary southern hospitality demonstrated in such kind ways.
All donations will go to Anne’s medical bills, both hospital and rehab. Any amount given is a blessing and an act of love. To contribute to help Anne Viser Scoggin, click on the link below…
