Help Anthony. Diagnosed with rare disease: AMN-ALD

My name is Florinda Gali and I decided to create this GoFundMe after my older brother, Anthony Gali was diagnosed with a very rare disease last week, May 27, 2021. The disease is call Adrenoleukodystrophy. Anthony has the adult-onset version, Adrenomyeloneuropathy, which affects mainly men in their early 30’s and is progressive in nature. 

Around a year ago, I began to notice that Anthony’s lower legs would shake when he would walk. At first he thought it due to his long hours of walking at work, especially working in a hospital during a pandemic. However, after a hospital admission, countless doctors visits, and genetic testing, it was confirmed that he in fact has AMN. AMN affects the spinal cord and causes severe weakness and stiffness in the legs. Because of its progressive nature, Anthony will need constant bloodwork and brain MRI’s in order to make sure it does not progress into cerebral ALD (which affects 10% of people diagnosed). 

Anthony needs our help. He has not been able to work in over 3 months because of his inability to walk, along with other issues that come along with AMN. Anthony now needs physical therapy, leg braces, and constant bloodwork/appointments. As many of you know, Anthony has his son Jaxson and his wife Ada and step-son Sebastian. They are trying to make ends meet but would appreciate any help from anyone who is willing, no matter how small. 

I found a specialist in Boston who is eager to meet Anthony and possibly help him find ways to cope, as there is currently no cure. I hope to be able to help Anthony see this doctor by the end of the year in hopes of getting some reassurance.

As his sister, I will make sure the funds are allocated to paying for his testing, therapy, leg braces, and maybe even a nice therapy dog!
