Kaindu Anti-Poaching Rangers COVID Appeal

Donation protected
If you care about the future of wildlife in Africa, and would like future generations to have access to and knowledge of truly wild Africa and its diversity of fauna and flora, we need to be aware of how important it is to keep anti-poaching efforts alive and active...

We urgently need donations to support the anti-poaching rangers continue their work scouting and protecting the diversity of wildlife in the Royal Kafue region of Zambia by helping to fund the Royal Kafue Kaindu Anti-Poaching Rangers during these changing and uncertain times.....

The Kaindu region in the Kafue area of Zambia is a truly wild and rural part of Africa, with a diversity of wildlife that has been brought back from the brink of destruction over the last 12 years due to anti-poaching efforts and sustainable, well-managed tourism. The protection of wildlife in the area relies heavily on the efforts of the anti-poaching rangers, whose equipment and living costs are essential to them being able to continue their work and protect the diversity of iconic species in the area, which include; Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Crocodile, Zebra, Roan, Sable, Kudu, Leweche, Bushbuck, Impala, Wild Dog, Waterbuck, Puku and Oribi, just to name a few.

The funding for the anti-poaching rangers and their equipment is usually raised through tourism. Due to the current circumstances surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, all tourism into Zambia has stopped! This results in a substantial loss of revenue to fund the anti-poaching activities and support the surrounding Kaindu Community.

Without these rangers, poaching will be on the rise as communities struggle to survive and feed their families in these stagnant and uncertain times. The blackmarket for trade in exotic animals and animal parts will be thriving, and Africa will lose much of its valuable wildlife. Communities will suffer, and without well-managed tourism and anti-poaching efforts to support them and protect their valuable animals they will turn to poaching and agriculture to survive. The world will lose one of our most precious and last remaining truly wild areas of fauna and flora!

It costs approximately £2500 per month to provide the rangers with food, transport, medical supplies, training and equipment. We do not know how long the these uncertain times will last or how the economy and tourism industry will come back from this global crisis! To support the Kaindu Anti-Poaching Rangers in Royal Kafue we are aiming to raise £7500 to provide the basic necessities for the next three months.  The donations will be used to directly purchase and supply the Rangers with the basic necessities such as:

Boots and clothing

Food and medicines

Field Equipment

Transportation costs and vehicle maintenance

Any funds above and beyond our final goal will be used to purchase food and supplies for the local Kaindu community and their children, who usually receive a percentage of funds from international tourism, which of course they will no longer be receiving. The community was already in crisis at the end of 2019 due to ongoing drought, failing crops, and over fishing of the local river. They have fallen on very hard times.

For me conserving truly wild Africa is a project close to my heart and precious to many,
I am sure you will agree? I would like my own children to know of and hopefully visit this glorious garden of eden one day, and to be truly appreciative of the wonders Mother Nature has provided. I have been following this project in Kaindu for the last three years, and I am amazed at how an area that was almost barren, with a lack of wildlife is now flourishing, and a community that were desperate for help could be brought together and given the opportunity to provide for their families through the passion and dedication of a few intrepid individuals.

BUT ALL THIS COULD BE LOST, if we don't come together to support this cause, these people, this wild land and its iconic animals!

The Kaindu Anti-Poaching Rangers of Kafue need your HELP! The future of wild places in Africa is IN OUR HANDS!

I am reaching out to ask for donations to help the rangers, protect the animals from poaching, and not let the black market in exotic animal trade use this crisis as its opportunity. Every amount is appreciated no matter how small. If we all give a little, together we can achieve so much.
