Help Anya, Remie, and Their 7 Cats to Relocate

Donation protected
Hi! We are Anya and Remie, a queer family of war refugees from Ukraine. Our lives changed drastically on February 24, 2022, when we had to flee from Kyiv due to the occupation in the Kyiv region. Thankfully, we found refuge in Poland, a country that welcomed us along with our seven beloved cats.

Our furry family consists of a mother cat and her six sons, whose presence in our lives is a heartwarming tale of compassion. We adopted a homeless cat who turned out to be pregnant, and thus our family expanded with these lovable additions: Basya, Bit, Pixel, Irvine, Robbins, Marvin, and Baskin. They mean the world to us, and we cannot imagine life without them.

Poland provided us with temporary shelter and the support of incredible people, to whom we will forever be grateful. However, our current living situation is not sustainable for the winter as we reside in a summer house. Last winter, we spent a significant amount of money on firewood and electricity to keep warm, and we now need to find a safe and warm home for the upcoming winter.

Considering Poland's lack of LGBTQ-friendly policies, we have decided to move to Spain, where same-sex marriages are legal and where there is still a possibility of obtaining asylum as war refugees. Although we would love to be back home in Ukraine, the current circumstances make that impossible, and we are adjusting to this new reality, no matter how challenging it may be.

The move to Spain is not without its difficulties, especially due to the distance we have to cover and the number of our cats. The costs involved are beyond our current financial means, and we are seeking assistance to ensure a safe and smooth transition to our new life.

The funds we require will cover the following expenses:
  • EU passports and vaccinations for our 7 cats (€470/$520)
  • Gas costs for a 2,500 km/1,550-mile journey (~€500/$550)
  • Overnight accommodation during the journey (3 nights, ~€600/$660)
  • Temporary accommodation for about a month while we prepare documents and find a home in Spain (~€1,200/$1,310)

The most significant expense is for long-term rentals in Spain, as landlords often require several months' rent upfront, along with a 2-4 month deposit, especially when pets are involved. Consequently, we need to gather a substantial amount before we can secure a suitable home for our family. Additionally, we might need to engage a realtor. Though we anticipate the total cost will exceed €13,000 ($14,200), we have set this amount as the initial goal.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who can contribute or share information about our fundraising campaign. Your generosity and support are changing our lives and making our dreams of a safe and accepting community come true. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

With love and gratitude,
Anya, Remie, and our 7 wonderful cats.
