Keep Aphasia WA support groups running for 2025!

This is Jordan. He has aphasia and tells his story. Jordan attends the Floreat Aphasia WA Group. Please donate to support the Aphasia WA community groups to keep them running!

Aphasia is a language disorder resulting from damage to the language centres of the brain, typically caused by stroke, head injury, encephalitis or neurological disease. It is estimated that more than 120,000 people have aphasia in Australia alone. Aphasia can affect understanding, speaking, reading, writing and calculating.

Aphasia WA (aka Communicate WA) is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2006 to support people living with aphasia in WA. We are a team of dedicated volunteers and speech pathologists. Aphasia impairs the ability to build and maintain social relationships. Many people with aphasia rely on these Aphasia WA community groups to minimise isolation and connect with other people with aphasia. Aphasia WA has several free support groups across Perth and regional WA including in Inglewood, Floreat, Joondalup, South Guildford, Palmyra, Armadale, Bunbury and Geraldton. Jordan’s dad David said the group provides “a safe space to socialize, see a road map for recovery, be with others who understand and learn from others”.

These groups are a vital part of recovery for people with aphasia. Your donation equivalent to the cost of your morning coffee will assist in keeping these groups running. Our goal is to raise $6200 which is the total cost to keep all the groups running for the duration of 2025.
