Hurricane Beryl left us without power for nearly a full week and the losses we suffered were worse than Harvey! I have some very nice words for the CEOs of Entergy/Centerpoint/Greg Abbott but first I have to make sure I don't end up in paupers jail.
I'm not so good with these kind of things, so please forgive me. I have no idea how much to ask for or what is fair. I appreciate everyone reading!
We live in the Cleveland, TX area. My company/business name is Aphelion Necrology - I travel with the Oddities and Curiosities Expo and some local oddities shows in the Houston area as well. This is my only source of income.
- I work in preserving animals (taxidermy/wet specimens/diaphonization) and had 2 large chest freezers completely full of animals - unfortunately, a total loss. Estimated loss of about $5k worth of specimens including some that are not replaceable. This included my own dog, Clancy, who passed in 2023. I had been saving him until I had the funds to have his skeleton processed.
- Our poor Elm tree attempted a casual lean and blocked us into the driveway, we managed to get the cars out but the full tree/stump will need to be removed and the driveway repaired ($300-500)
- We had a total loss of all frozen/cold foods for a family of 3 and many pets. If you have not experienced that smell, I hope you never have to. You ever see cartoon stink lines IRL?
- I lost about 75% ($1k) of my tropical fish/shrimp colonies including many that I'd raised from babies - over 100 animals. I didn't think I'd cry about fish but I sure did.
- We also spent about $400 on emergency fuels/supplies over the week to save as much as we could and now my bank account is about as empty as a box of shortbreads after being left unattended with me.
Thankfully we did not lose more and all of our other pets survived. I'm very thankful to those that reached out to us to offer help or even just to check in - it helped a lot mentally just to know that people could hear us. I won't even touch on how horrible the experience was mentally/emotionally because I know other people lost so much more.
I really appreciate anyone who took the time to read this.
Below are some pet tax photos and some photos of my diaphonized works.
