Help Ariel recover from Lupus. Ayuda a Ariel

Hi, my name is Paula and I’m raising funds for my friend and neighbour for over 20 years, Edith Lopez, a really hard working single mom that has her youngest daughter in a critical medical situation at the Cancun General Hospital in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Edith’s daughter, Ariel, is 14 years old and got a very late diagnose of Lupus, now stage 3.

She started feeling ill over a year ago, getting really weak and the doctors that attended misdiagnosed her every time saying that she was just anemic.

A month ago, Ariel’s health stared to decline rapidly to the point that she was no able to walk and fainted many times.

she got rushed to the hospital in Cancun (which is 35 km away from her home town Puerto Morelos) and after two weeks in the hospital, finally she got diagnosed with Lupus, stage 3.

A couple of days after the diagnosis, because of the Lupus, Ariel’s body collapsed and had a respiratory failure, one of her lungs got full of fluid, the heart became very weak and her kidneys stopped working completely.

Doctors where not too optimistic, at some point they said to Ariel’s mom (Edith) that they were “Just waiting for Ariel to stop breathing and they will let her know when that happens”…

Edith travels everyday 35km from Puerto Morelos to Cancun to see her daughter only for half hour as they don’t allow her for longer. She keeps attending her other daughter and two grand kids plus her elderly mom, she is working the little bit of time that she has available cleaning houses, making tamales, doing errands to be able to pay for the medical expenses and transportation, but is not nearly enough of what is needed.

Edith’s daughter needs medicine for her kidneys and treatment from a kidney specialist to see if Ariel’s kidneys can recover some function, and the Cancun General Hospital (which is a public hospital) don’t have a kidney specialist, so Edith has to bring a private doctor and pay $1.800.- Mexican pesos every time. She has to pay as well $8,000.- for the special kidneys medication and that is every month and for life.

Her daughter right now is on an induced coma, she can’t breathe on her own so she has a respirator and because her kidneys are not working at all she is with diálisis and she will need this for life as well as the expensive medication.

This are expenses that Edith can’t cover, she has a very low income and limited resources, and even then she manages to feed all her family and look after them.

The future of Ariel is uncertain, Edith keeps her faith and hopes high but doctors are not very optimistic and they say different things every day.

Hola, mi nombre es Paula y estoy recaudando fondos para mi amiga y vecina por más de 20 años, Edith López, una madre soltera muy trabajadora que tiene a su hija menor en una situación médica crítica en el Hospital General de Cancún en Cancún, Quintana Roo, México.

La hija de Edith, Ariel, tiene 14 años y recibió un diagnóstico muy tardío de lupus, ahora en etapa 3.

Comenzó a sentirse enferma hace más de un año, se puso muy débil y los médicos que la atendían la diagnosticaban mal cada vez diciendo que solo estaba anémica.

Hace un mes, la salud de Ariel comenzó a empeorar rápidamente hasta el punto de que no podía caminar y se desmayó muchas veces.

la llevaron de urgencia al hospital de Cancún (que está a 35 km de su ciudad natal, Puerto Morelos) y después de dos semanas en el hospital, finalmente le diagnosticaron lupus, etapa 3.

Un par de días después del diagnóstico, a causa del Lupus, el cuerpo de Ariel colapsó y tuvo un paro respiratoria, uno de sus pulmones se llenó de líquido, el corazón se debilitó mucho y sus riñones dejaron de funcionar por completo.

Los médicos no fueron demasiado optimistas, en algún momento le dijeron a la mamá de Ariel (Edith) que estaban "solo esperando que Ariel dejara de respirar y le avisarán cuando eso suceda"...

Edith viaja todos los días 35 km desde Puerto Morelos hasta Cancún para ver a su hija solo media hora ya que no le permiten más tiempo. Ella sigue atendiendo a su otra hija y dos nietos más su mama que es de la tercera edad, está trabajando el poco tiempo que tiene limpiando casas, haciendo tamales, haciendo mandados para poder pagar los gastos médicos y transporte, pero no es suficiente, ni siquiera cerca, de lo que se necesita.

La hija de Edith necesita medicina para sus riñones y tratamiento de un especialista para ver si los riñones de Ariel pueden recuperar alguna función, y el Hospital General de Cancún (que es un hospital público) no tiene un especialista en riñones, por lo que Edith tiene que traer un médico privado y paga $1.800.- pesos mexicanos cada vez. Ella tiene que pagar también $8,000.- por el medicamento especial para los riñones y eso es todos los meses y de por vida.

Su hija en este momento está en coma inducido, no puede respirar por sí misma, por lo que tiene un respirador y debido a que sus riñones no funcionan en absoluto, está con diálisis y necesitará esto de por vida, así como la costosa medicación.

Estos son gastos que Edith no puede cubrir, ella tiene muy bajos ingresos y recursos limitados, y aún así logra alimentar a toda su familia y cuidarla.

El futuro de Ariel es incierto, Edith mantiene su fe y esperanzas altas pero los médicos no son muy optimistas y cada día dicen cosas diferentes.
