Help Arlo Get the Surgery He Desperately Needs!

We’re reaching out on behalf of a truly special member of our community, Amber Shaver, and her beloved rescue Boxer, Arlo. Amber is well-known for her selfless dedication to animals, always going above and beyond to help those in need. Whether searching for missing pets, advocating for mistreated animals, or driving around with a car full of supplies to aid homeless dogs, Amber’s compassion is unmatched.

We first met Amber when we needed a dog walker for our boys, Beau and Loki, and since then, we've seen firsthand just how big her heart is. Despite the overwhelming news about Arlo, Amber won't ask for help herself—so we're asking for her.

About Arlo:

Arlo, a rescue, is a 3-year-old Boxer who urgently needs TPLO surgery on both of his hind legs due to a CCL tear (Cranial Cruciate Ligament) and arthritis. Unfortunately, this is a degenerative condition that cannot be managed conservatively and requires surgical intervention. Adding to the complexity, Arlo also has a heart condition that needs treatment.

Arlo was diagnosed at Capital City Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital in Ottawa, where he will undergo his surgeries once enough funds are raised. The estimated cost for each knee surgery is $7,000, and the additional treatment for his heart is around $800, bringing the total to nearly $15,000. Amber sought multiple opinions, and all agreed that surgery is essential. Given Arlo’s heart condition, it’s crucial that the procedure is performed where a cardiology department is available.

Amber is in the early stages of building her new business as a dog walker and pet sitter, making this financial burden even more challenging. We know this is a substantial amount of money to ask for, but we also know that if it were our dog—or yours—Amber would be the first to step up and help in any way she could.
