Hello and thank you for considering donating! As you may or may not know I am on a big scholarship at Oberlin college in Ohio! Months before I graduated I was nominated for a full tuition early decision scholarship through the posse foundation. They would provide my peers and I career advising, academic support, community and full tuition with the goal of sending a diverse group of ten leaders and scholars away together as a “Posse” to a college out of state in hopes that we would make an impact and keep each other on track to getting our degrees. I was after 3 rounds of interviews I was selected to be a part of this group granting myself the opportunity to be the first of 4 kids to leave the house for college! But as I accept the financial burden of filling the gap between tuition and room and board, I am faced with the challenge of not being able to do it alone. After working and saving diligently all summer while applying to external scholarships, after receiving money from my community at my going away party I was able to pool enough funds to cover my parents and I were able to cover first semester expenses of 5 thousand dollars. After my first semester at Oberlin I can see that this is a place that I want to stay and grow in. I am committed to applying to external scholarships and saving wages that I earn to further invest in me staying at Oberlin but I cannot do it all alone. After financial appeals to the president, and financial aid office of my institution there I have been given decisive feedback that there is nothing further my school can offer. Everything that I raise will go towards the monthly payments that are keeping me on campus for my second semester. After putting the first payment down I am now back to square one saving every dollar to paying the second month all help is appreciated and no help is too little!
Update: Thank you all so much for your donations! After first semester I was not sure if I would be able to return to first semester without the financial support of my community. Because of the support I received I was able to invest in my music career at oberlin making myself available for community gigs, and take part in opportunities on campus like gospel choir and secondary lessons! Before winter term I was in a place where I didn’t know if I was going to be able to continue my track season because of financial need. Since then I’ve run lifetime bests, the fastest 200m time ever by a freshman indoors at oberlin, broken 2 relay school records 5 times over, one of them being the fastest performance any team ever put on in the history of the conference championship meet, and am now securing a national qualifying time for our team to perform on the biggest stage possible, ncaa d3 national championship. I couldn’t have done all these great things without each and every dollar donated and I hope that your contributions will continue to finish the year off strong! I am only 3000 dollars away from financial security for the 2024 academic year so continue to share and donate if you have the means to do so! Thank you❤️
