Help Arturo's Family Say Goodbye

Donation protected
Arturo died in CBP custody. Help his family say goodbye.

Arturo was 42 years old when he decided to return to the United States from Mexico. He wanted to reunite with his family, including his teenage children. A few days before Christmas, Arturo’s family heard from him—he was in line, waiting to present himself at the border. Then days went by, and there was no word from Arturo. During the shocking days that followed, Arturo's family came to learn bits and pieces of the hours that led up to his death in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Many of the circumstances of Arturo's death are shrouded in secrecy. The family has been told that Arturo died by suicide within one hour of coming into the custody of the United States government. While Arturo's family is left with more questions than answers, they are also struggling with the financial strain of arranging to have Arturo’s body sent to their home in Indiana and arrange for a proper burial.

Arturo lost his life while in the custody of the U.S. government. He is one of at least 101 people who have died as a result of an encounter with U.S. border agents since January 2010.  Please join us in helping his family properly say goodbye during their time of grief.
