Help us help Arya!

UPDATE:

Hi friends! Over the holidays we stayed in Philly, which we felt was the best decision, even though we deeply missed seeing our loved ones back home. It paid off though because Arya got her final bloodwork back as a fantastic recovery! She got her e-tube out at the beginning of January, which was a New Year's miracle, and these last couple of weeks we've seen her energy come back, her appetite and her sass. We just wanted everyone to know how deeply we appreciate your love and support! It really, really means a lot.

We hope your New Year is off to a good start as well, lots of love

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kat and Nick here. The week before Thanksgiving, we took Arya to the vet because something seemed wrong; she had not eaten and was experiencing severe onset jaundice/ her liver was failing. The doctor recommended that she be taken to emergency care and given an IV drip, feeding tube, and liver biopsy to determine the underlying cause. These emergency services were the best treatment for her, but at the time, it was really scary if she was going to pull through or if something more serious was happening. Currently, we are still uncertain about the cause of her malnutrition, but she's been on the mend at home through our love and care.

Arya was born in Nick's house from his previous cat and given to Kat as a surprise birthday present the year we started dating (2015). She's been through all of Kat's major life moments: her first real job, living alone, moving to Philly, and grad school; and she was a light in our lives keeping us both sane during the pandemic.

So here we are; we feel strange reaching out for help as we have always felt a sense of pride in doing things ourselves and toughing things out, but we are already trying to make ends meet with student debt and inflation. When faced with the potential of a huge vet bill, we had to make an excruciating decision: be more in debt or potentially lose a member of our family. The decision wasn't hard.

I know this is a tough time for everyone, but our vet costs are already over $6,000, and we don't know what the future holds, any amount you would be willing to spare or even just sharing our story would mean the world to us.

Happy Holidays, lots of love,
Kat, Nick & Arya
