Help Ashley & Eric make a HASTY comeback!
Donation protected
Background:
On November 12, Ashley and Eric purchased a condominium in the Uptown area of Chicago. Following closing, a contractor was brought in to professionally paint and make repairs. Ashley and Eric moved in on November 22.
What happened:
Around noon on Sunday, November 24, an unattended oven in the unit below caught fire while running a self-cleaning cycle. The fire spread quickly through the walls of the building, and as the Hasty's unit was immediately above, they were seriously impacted. Fortunately firefighters were able to save Ashley and Eric's dog, Huxley.
The kitchen, hallway, master bathroom, and utility room were completely destroyed by fire. Water damage from the firefighters left standing water throughout the entire unit. Smoke also spread throughout the entire unit, leaving soot residue and a powerful odor on the ceilings, walls, and all personal belongings.
Extent of the damage:
Damage is extensive. The building management agency and restoration crews have indicated that the Hasty's unit, and much of the building, will likely need to be completely gutted and rebuilt over the next four to six months. Most personal belongings have been destroyed by either fire, water, or smoke damage.
Current status:
Ashley and Eric are currently in the process of working through a complicated insurance situation, and are presently staying in a hotel. Following finalization by adjusters from the various involved insurers, reconstruction will begin, and Ashley and Eric expect to live in temporary rental housing until restoration is complete.
What will donated funds be used for:
In the near term, Ashley and Eric have had to purchase new clothes, dog food, and various other items. In the long term, Ashley and Eric will have to replace many of the personal property lost in the fire. All funds donated will be directly used towards restoration efforts, for the replacement of lost personal property, or to help bridge the gap between near-term needs and insurance funding.
All donations are greatly and sincerely appreciated.
