Support Torrance Jr's Fight Against FND

Hello, this gofundme page is for a very special 7 year old boy who was recently diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder). His name is Torrance Jr.

Jr is 1 of 4 siblings who lives in a single parent household. He has 2 older twin sisters and one younger sister to whom he is extremely close with. They all live with their hardworking mother. Everyone who has met this sweet little boy would describe him as adventurous, athletic, sweet, (loves to hold open doors for his mom and sisters) and a dancing machine!!!

Sadly, on July 26th, Jr's health started to deteriorate. Jr and his family were driving home from their mom's Diabetes appointment in Iowa City. Suddenly, they noticed that JR was twitching for little periods at a time, they continued to watch him closely on the drive back to Dubuque. When they got home, they tried to get him comfortable and to go to sleep but the twitches started to get worse. Jr was then taken to the ER, while at the ER Jr's mom was advised that there was nothing the health care providers could do and sent him home with no answers or follow up.

The next morning the twitching was worse, so his family took him up to the hospital again. Luckily, this time they seen the seizures. However, they only gave him some seizure medicine and sent him home, still no answers. Come to find out the medication was for epilepsy (which he does not have) so it made Jr feel even worse.

It was then decided to take him to Iowa City for more answers, once they arrived, he was admitted right away. That very evening he was hooked up to an eeg, which is how they found out that we was not epileptic. The next morning, he was taken to go an EKG in which the doctors diagnosed him with Functional Neurological Disorder.

This condition is causing Jr's brain to have problems with sending and receiving messages to the body. Lights, sounds, and even his emotions can send him into non epilepsy seizures. His limbs go numb and sometimes feel non-existent. Walking, talking and swallowing have now become very hard tasks for him. Jr is now needing 24/7 care which is causing his mom who is also strained with her own health conditions to not be able to work. The family has become very far behind with their bills, and travel has been very costly. The doctors are advising that he may need to be wheelchair bound now. And he will now have to continue to go through physical and mental therapy.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions and the certainty of Jr's health up in the air until more is learned of this condition. In moments like these, we are reminded of the power of the community and how supporting one another can have a significant impact.
