Help Ashley Battle Through Her Cancer Journey.

Writing this has to be one of the hardest things that I’ve ever had to do in my life but here I go...

On Friday, July 9, 2021, our lives were changed drastically and turned upside down. At the mere age of 27 years old, my twin sister Ashley Marie Riggi was diagnosed with a rare case of Hodgkins Lymphoma. Hodgkins Lymphoma is a uncommon Cancer of the lymphatic system, which is a part of the immune system. As the cancer progresses, it limits the body’s ability to fight infection.

After seeing many doctors and specialists, Ashley was given a life expectancy of 5 years if she doesn’t undergo chemotherapy immediately because of the aggressiveness of her diagnosis. Due to the rarity of her particular case and illness, she will be in complete isolation for at least 6 months to a year. This does not include the years of treatment afterwards. Although she has a chance for a full recovery, she will be fighting everyday.

Unfortunately, due to these unexpected circumstances, she has less then a month to prepare herself for what has yet to come. This tragedy will cripple her in every way and form. She will have to undergo fertility treatment so that she may be able to be a mother one day, will no longer be able to work, will have to take a leave of absence from nursing school, and go through intensive physical and emotional changes. All the little things that we all take for granted every single day of our lives and most of these medical expenses are not covered by insurance.

My sister is truly one of the strongest and most caring people in the world and she would do anything for anyone. So I’m asking for you all to help her… Any little bit helps, most importantly your prayers. I’m completely broken and don’t know what else to do to help her besides put myself out to the whole world to ask our family, friends and strangers for help. Sometimes we must humble ourselves especially for the people we love and for a person that I shared a womb with for 9 months and a life with for 27 years. I don’t know what my life would be without my twin sister and neither would my 3 beautiful children that adore and love their Aunt so very much. She is truly a beautiful person inside and out. She is the other half of me.
