UPDATE: Ashley’s surgery to remove cancerous thyroid and lymph nodes in the neck is complete! It was an extensive surgery, over 7 hours long, but Ashley is recovering and will hopefully be home from the hospital in less than a week. WE NEED YOUR HELP! My son, Zachary, married his best friend, Ashley, on October 29, 2022, “the best day of his life”. After just 2 ½ months of marriage, doctors diagnosed Ashley with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. She was immediately referred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore where she had extensive testing and biopsies, and doctors ultimately confirmed the diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer, which has spread to lymph nodes in her neck. On February 22, 2023, Ashley will undergo a six-hour surgery, a radical thyroidectomy, removing the entire thyroid gland, tumor and removal of affected lymph nodes in her neck and further tissue biopsy during surgery. Evaluation following surgery will determine if further treatment is required.

Doctors are estimating Ashley’s recuperation to be 2-3 months, at which time she will be unable to work. Zachary will also be out of work for some time to care for and support Ashley through her recuperation. This will put a significant financial burden on them due to loss of income, medical costs, travel costs to and from Johns Hopkins, rehabilitation following surgery etc.
