Help Asnakech, Frew, and Mesafint Rebuild Their Home
Donation protected
Meet Asnakech and her sons, Frew and Mesafint! They live in rural southern Ethiopia in a traditional wood-framed mud house. It has now become unstable and is in danger of collapse. Their house was built on the ground without a foundation, causing it to wear down in the heavy rains. This is close to where recent mudslides killed hundreds and made national news.
If we can raise the money, this family can build a sturdy new home that will keep them safe! They plan to rebuild in the same wood frame and mud wall style, but this time secured on a solid foundation made of concrete. If enough money is raised they will be able to add running water and power, which would be a huge blessing! Right now Asnakech walks 2km each way to get water.
The cost of materials and labor in Ethiopia is expensive for the people who live there. The country is recovering from a civil war and struggling with high inflation. The oldest son Frew is college-educated, but him and his brother Mesafint have been unable to find work for a while now. Asnakech is widowed, and the family survives on subsistence farming.
If enough people join together to donate, we can help this precious family have a safe and secure home! God bless you for partnering in this good work!
***Because of potential fraud with the relief efforts for the victims of the Ethiopian landslides, GoFundMe is requesting me to answer these questions below.
1. Who you are
My name is Karli Mason
2. Where you're from
I am from Washington State, USA
3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for and who will be receiving the funds
This family is my adopted son's birth family. I will be giving the money to the oldest son, Frew.
4. How the funds will be delivered
I will use a money transfer service to deposit the money to the oldest son, Frew's, bank account.
5. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)
The money will be spent on materials and labor to rebuild the family's house on their current property. This includes concrete, wood beams for the frame and walls, roofing materials, windows and a door, a contractor to design the build, people to transport supplies to the property, and if there is enough funds, plumbing and electricity to be hooked up. If there is any extra money left over, the family will use it for daily living expenses such as food, clothing, and medicine.
