Help Audrey Recover from her Traumatic Injuries
Donation protected
My name is Ian Cameron, and I am raising money for the extensive rehabilitation costs for my lovely niece Audrey.
On Monday, September 30th at 8:30 am, Audrey Cameron, a 15 year old girl was on her way to Nepean High School in Ottawa. She was riding her scooter on the sidewalk and stopped at the crosswalk before crossing Carling Avenue at Saigon Court. Unfortunately, a car was moving at high speed in the fast lane and struck her as she crossed, propelling her high over the vehicle and onto the road. The impact fractured her pelvis and left knee, and caused traumatic brain injuries.
Many who suffer such an injury enter a coma or are killed instantly. However, due to the heroic efforts of emergency doctors at the Civic Hospital she survived this event, and after 2 days with family by her side, she awoke. She is responsive and able to communicate, but cannot speak or walk.
Audrey is a gentle and compassionate child with a great love of art and animals. She had a promising future ahead of her, but this will now only be possible with extensive rehabilitation therapy to treat her injuries and to re-train her brain to function properly. This therapy is extremely time consuming and expensive, and most cases of this severity can take months to years in order to reach any level of success. It requires a combination of speech therapy, physical therapy, recreational and occupational therapy, adaptive equipment training, and psychological counselling.
Her family is seeking financial aid to help with the overwhelming costs of this rehabilitation. It will be very difficult, as the main care providing parent will not be able to work while caring full time for Audrey. We appreciate any help you may provide to restore our beautiful Audrey.
*** October 6th Update! Audrey is awake and interacting with us now. She cannot speak still but we are hoping something soon. Here is her photo today, she is so adorable and positive despite what she is going through!
