Help Autism School Rebuild After Flood Damage
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shasta Hedgpeth and my 13-year-old son, Marek, is a student at The Center for Autism Education in St. Peters, MO. On Tuesday, July 26th, torrential rain flooded many areas in the St. Louis area, including The Center for Autism Education. Ten inches of rain fell that day. The parking lot flooded and filled the school. The school "sustained immense flood damage estimated for tens of thousands of dollars" and will remain closed until the damage can be repaired. As you can tell by the pictures, some prep work has already been done; however, that is just a small part. So much more work is needed. Remediation of mold and mildew may also have to be done to protect the many students with asthma and breathing issues.
It is a sad thing for any school to suffer damage like this but for a school that specializes in helping kids and adults with autism it is especially heartbreaking. Marek and his friends need this school and will have difficulty understanding why they are not allowed to return. If the school cannot raise the money and find help repairing the damage, reopening on August 17th as previously scheduled could become an issue. I have created this GoFundMe to help raise funds for the school so that Marek and his friends will have a school to return to like all other kids in the area. Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser to help The Center for Autism Education rebuild their school and continue making a difference in the special needs community.
