Help Awen get a psychiatric service dog!
Donation protected
Hello, beloved community. I have started a fundraiser to help Awen access the medical care she needs for her PTSD. She and her treatment team have identified that a psychiatric service dog would benefit her immensely.
The last couple of years have been challenging and dark for her as she struggled to understand the cause of her symptoms. She has not been able to attend in-person school regularly, has not been able to be safe with herself, and has wrestled with deep depression and anxiety that led to a suicide attempt in February. Since then, she has been working incredibly hard and is improving significantly. We want to support her in continuing to heal, and a service dog is the next step.
As many of you know, this can be a daunting and expensive journey. I have done my research and found a wonderful non-profit in Corvallis that trains dogs for folks, including youth, with psychiatric disabiliites. This organization also is a fraction of the cost of most training organizations. The total goal of $6000 will cover the cost of the dog, application fee, training fee, and initial vet and supplies costs. We will be working weekly with the organization to train the service dog (and our existing pets to increase the success for Awen and her service animal).
Please share this widely, as I know that many of us are not in a position to donate much, but might know someone who is better able to help. Any amount is helpful, so please do not feel shy about any amount. It all adds up!
Thank you for helping me care for Awen and for supporting her brave and challenging healing.
All my love,
River
