Help Ayden Fight Leukemia!

When the family came down with the flu, 7-year-old Ayden Jones seemed to have the worst of it. He wasn’t eating; he wasn’t himself. On Sunday, January 14, 2018, his parents Kyle and Samantha took him to urgent care to see what they could do for him. To their surprise, the doctors said he may have pneumonia, but he should be taken to a children’s hospital in South Bend as there may be something more serious at play.
In South Bend, Ayden was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APML), an extremely rare form of the cancer for his age, and his oncologist recommended that they go to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for the best care possible. At Riley, they confirmed Ayden’s diagnosis, intubated him, and immediately started chemotherapy. He’s currently on Riley’s high risk path for APML treatment because of the high number of leukemia and white blood cells found in his system. The path, at its shortest if everything goes to plan, will include 9 to 12 months of intensive chemotherapy and bone marrow testing.
The early stages of Ayden’s recovery are the most dangerous. The cancer cells in his bone marrow have stopped the production of blood clotting agents and the cancer cells in his blood are sending signals to clot throughout his body, so he’s at a high risk for strokes and doesn’t have a way to stop bleeding. The good news, however, is that once treatments have gotten him out of this window of risk for clotting and bleeding, APML has a 100% cure rate, and Ayden has been responding well to the treatments in these early phases.
As you can imagine, this type of top-quality care and the need for his parents to be at his side pose a significant financial burden, but your generosity can help alleviate that burden. During these stressful times, the last thing Ayden’s family needs to worry about is money.
Please do what you can to help Ayden and his family along his path to remission so he can get back to being a kid as soon as possible. Thank you!
