Help Ayman Overcome Sickle Cell Anemia
Donation protected
Ayman (joyful) is about 5 months old and is diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia SS, which is mainly found in Africa, affecting about 8 million of the world population, including about 100,000 Americans.
Sickle Cell Anemia carriers have sickle-shaped red blood cells that end up blocking blood flow and causing damage to organs. This blood disease is genetically inherited. It manifests itself mainly through pain episodes and requires medical attention. Ayman has gone through a few of them already, with swollen arms and legs during procedures when it happens.
Ayman is too young to undergo medication treatment with drugs such as hydroxyurea. His parents found a permanent treatment option that would cost around $12,000 USD.
His hardworking parents of two live in Niger (Africa), where resources and finances are very limited. Their constant visits to the doctor have been nothing short of financially and emotionally exhausting. Ayman would love for his parents to enjoy his bow ties and not worry about his health and medical bills as much.
In addition, because of the limited research funds in the fight against Sickle Cell Anemia, the best treatments are out of reach, ranging from $200,000 USD to $3.1 million USD. To learn more about Sickle Cell Anemia, visit National Institute of Health website.
