Raising funds to give 20-month-old Ahana the lifesaving treatment she needs to survive the rare form of cancer, stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma.
Ahana is a gorgeous, funny and energetic 20-month-old who loves nothing more than playing with her toys and spending time with her family. Ahana has a rare form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. This form of cancer started in Ahana's chest cavity. There is a large malignant tumor, currently measuring 15cm in diameter, wrapping around her aorta, pushing her heart and airways out, and also compressing her spinal cord. Her anatomy in that area is completely distorted, leaving her left vocal cord paralyzed. The cancer has also infiltrated the lung and spread to her bone marrow and other parts of the musculoskeletal system. Due to the advanced stage, the medical teams have given us an initial survival rate of 30% however with neuroblastoma if remission is attained, the chance of relapse is outrageously high and once relapsed, the survival rate is less than 5%.
Currently, Ahana has started high-dose chemotherapy and is on her 2nd cycle. Her current treatment plan includes, multiple high doses of chemotherapy, surgeries, autologous stem cell transplants and immunotherapy, followed by further treatments if the 1st line is unsuccessful.
After extensive research and communication with multiple medical facilities, we found a hospital in New York, USA called Memorial Sloan Kettering, who are running a vaccine trial to reduce the risk of neuroblastoma relapse. Currently, this is the only hospital in the world that is running a clinical trial for neuroblastoma and providing hope to prevent relapse of this dreadful rare cancer in kids.
This feels like our last option to provide Ahana with the best platform to survive this dreaded childhood cancer and we need to get her into the clinical trial at MSK.
We therefore ask upon your amazing generosity to help us raise the funds needed to give little Ahana the fighting chance and future she deserves. Time could not be more of the essence, and every contribution will bring us a step closer to giving her this opportunity at a prolonged life.
To get Ahana into this trial we will need to raise GBP300 000.00. The trial spans 156 weeks with Ahana needing to travel to New York on multiple occasions for the treatment and monitoring (including her stay in ICU, drugs, nurses and the groundbreaking vaccine).
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kind contributions, Ahana's Parents (Aveen and Avanya)
