Help Baby Brendan Matthew
We are appealing to your kind and generous hearts to help Baby Brendan Matthew P. Rosal be a normal child and experience life with his loving parents.
This is the story of Baby Brendan Matthew, my godson. Baby Brendan Matthew is from the Philippines and was born on 05 January 2022 at 08:46AM. At birth, he was extremely premature at 23 weeks and 4 days age of gestation and weighed only 560 grams. The baby’s parents, Bhon and Adie, are my dear friends.
The parents were married on August 2018 and had been longing for a baby. They had gone through a painful chapter with the loss of their first baby on March 2020 due to premature birth. The first baby was named Brent and lived only for about an hour. At that time, no interventions were done by the doctors as the chance of survival may have been very slim. Having gone through the darkest chapter of being parents, they have done every possible thing they can to ensure that the same thing will not going to happen again as the painful loss of Baby Brent had put them in deep sorrow. Sadly, what they have feared most happened once again.
In the evening of January 4, 2022, the parents had the feeling that it would be a long night for them as Adie experienced signs of labor. As time went by, the contractions felt by Adie became more frequent and were subsequently coupled with increasing pain. The experience was very familiar to her as it was similar to what she had experienced with Baby Brent. At around 11 PM, Adie was brought to the Delivery Room for proper observation and monitoring. All the necessary interventions to prevent labor were done but the contractions still persisted and the delivery of the baby became inevitable with every passing minute. Since the hospital admission, the parents took it one day at a time and each day was considered by them as a miracle from God.
At the age of gestation of 23 weeks and 4 days, Baby Brendan Matthew was born 17 weeks early and requires long-term stay at the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The parents are doing everything they can in order to raise funds and sustain the hospitalization of Baby Brendan Matthew. The day-to-day hospital expenses of the baby ranges from US$1,000 - US$1,600 depending on the medications, procedures and laboratory tests to be done. In his nine (9) days of stay at the NICU, the hospital bills had reached more than US$10,000.00 (around Php519,000.00) excluding the doctors’ professional fees. At the current rate, Baby Brendan Matthew’s hospital bills are projected to reach US$100,000.00 (Php 5 million) excluding professional fees for about three (3) months stay at the NICU.
Baby Brendan Matthew’s will to survive is very strong. Despite his fragile condition, he is very active when awake. He kicks and raises his small feet up in the air whenever he gets the chance. His legs have to be tucked in just so his lines and tubes will not get displaced. His parents as well as his doctors and nurses can attest to this. Baby Brendan Matthew is currently fighting off an infection and had been administered with antibiotics. With God’s mercy and your help, Baby Brendan Matthew can live a healthy and happy life with his family.
We humbly ask for your prayers, support and donations. The Rosal Family would like to thank you in advance for your sincere help in this time of need. Rest assured that any excess financial assistance or donations shall be donated by the parents to help other babies inside the NICU who likewise require similar assistance.
Update (19 January): His doctors inserted yesterday an IV tube into his neck for his medicines. Today they will try to feed him so can gain more weight. Kindly pray that he may be able to endure the procedure so he can gain more weight and strength. Thanks everyone and keep safe! God bless!
