Help Baby Ezra's Parents Stay Close to Him in the NICU

Our sweet baby boy Ezra is in critical condition, and we are trying to raise money to be closer by him at the hospital and help cover the additional expenses that comes with that, such as medical-related expenses, transit/parking, and food.

Overnight Monday the 10th into Tuesday the 11th, Ezra suddenly got severely ill with NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) an intestinal infection that preemies are at risk for. While trying to fight off the infection, his kidneys and liver also started to loose function, worsening his condition, and he was then transported to the Boston Children’s hospital NICU. His little body has been through so much and continues to fight very hard but he has a long road ahead of him. He is currently on a ventilator, multiple IVs for nutrition, blood, and more, and to top things off he also has a fractured arm they think happened at birth. He is currently stable, but we are continuing to take this hour by hour. He has showed small signs of improvement over the past two days and the doctors are remaining hopeful for him.

We are no where near home as Mom got severe preeclampsia while visiting family over the holidays out of state. As her condition worsened, Mom was transported to another hospital and made it an additional 4 weeks for baby Ezra to grow. Unfortunately the preeclampsia became too severe at 1 day shy of 31 weeks, and due to the concerns about having seizures, Ezra had to be born very early. His first 2 weeks in the NICU were great and seemed very promising, as he was even getting a little ahead for his age, but unfortunately he suddenly became critically ill.

The past two months have been so hard for our family. With the help and support of family and friends we've been able to make things work living so far away from home, only having the luggage we brought from our Christmas trip.

Back at home, family has helped take care of our cats and home during this long time away, and they are in good hands.

While we have been here, family and friends have helped with housing, food, laundry, etc. to help make the months we have been and will continue to be here viable.

The part we need help with now is being able to continue staying near Ezra in the NICU during this period he is in critical condition. Social work was able to get us 2 free nights at a nearby hotel the night he took a turn, and since then family and friends have continued to make our stay near the hospital possible for a few extra nights as well.

Based on the current regimen and course for Ezra's care during this critical period, and accounting for what we have already been able to raise offline, we are in need of 11 additional nights in the area during this time. We are doing our best to utilize the resources we have access to, such as social work, free meals and shuttles as the hospital and housing allow, discounted parking bundles/locations to avoid crazy city prices, and anything else that has been accessible.

Here is a conservative breakdown of what our goal to raise covers, including estimates for fees, taxes, and miscellaneous extra expenses we expect along the way.
