Baby Hala, a Palestinian refugee in Northern Lebanon, has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia and needs funding for life-saving treatments. At just two years old, Hala has been given a diagnosis that most of us fear; cancer. Her illness is worsened by her political and economic situation and her case needs urgent attention and generosity. Though the economic situation in Lebanon is dire for all, the financial outlook for Palestinian refugees is especially grim.
Hala's case is unique and the need for treatment is critical. She has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and, unfortunately, her cancer has not been responsive. The doctors have informed her family that she will need a bone marrow transplant to survive, a procedure that will cost her family everything. Without medical insurance or steady employment (because of their refugee-status), Hala's family struggles to finance her treatment, the very treatment Hala needs for survival.
Hala is a wonderful, curious, and happy baby girl who deserves the opportunity to grow and learn and live a normal childhood. The political and financial situation of her family should not and must not affect the level of care and treatment Hala receives.
