Help Baby Luz May Fight for Her Life
Donation protected
In August 2023, our beautiful daughter, Luz May, entered the world much earlier than expected, at just 27 weeks and weighing a mere 520 grams (1.1lbs).
From the start, her journey has been fraught with challenges. At 26 weeks, complications in the pregnancy led to an emergency transfer from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria’s Hospital Materno Infantil.
Despite the odds, Luz May has shown incredible strength. After spending a month on oxygen in the NICU to help her tiny lungs develop, she was diagnosed with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and remains dependent on oxygen to this day.
In December, another hurdle emerged: Bilateral Vocal Cord Paralysis, making it impossible for her to feed by mouth. A gastric feeding tube (G-Tube) was fitted, and soon after, a tracheotomy was performed to secure her airway. With these interventions, Luz May returned to a CPAP ventilator, aiding her breathing as her lungs continue to grow.
In November 2023, just as we were navigating these challenges, tragedy struck again. Luz May’s father, John, suffered a severe accident, breaking his tibia and fibula. The surgery to repair his leg involved inserting three plates and sixteen screws, leaving him unable to visit Luz May as often as he wished. John is now in rehabilitation, striving to regain his strength.
Luz May’s fight is far from over. She will need to remain in the hospital for the next 6-12 months, as the facilities in Fuerteventura cannot provide the specialized care she requires. We are desperate to stay by her side, to give her the love and support she needs to grow stronger.
We humbly ask for your help. The funds raised will cover our living expenses, allowing us to remain close to Luz May during this critical time.
Your generosity will enable us to focus on her recovery and give her the best chance at a healthy future.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
