Help Baby Thomas Po’okela and family.

Hi, this is trina and josh Statler. Mom and dad of Thomas. Back in November of 22 he was diagnosed with hydrocephaly, he had his first brain surgery to place a VP shunt to help drain the fluid that was built up around his brain. Then in December after weeks of trying to do feeding therapy to get him better at drinking milk we had to take him back in due to his shunt draining fluid too much for him and him getting sick. At that time he got a NG tube placed to help him with his feeding. We now see a neurosurgeon, PT, OT, nutritionist and GI to make sure that he’s getting the care he needs with all that he has. Well, March came and he was starting to do better and then he started having “seizure like episodes” so we decided to take him to the hospital to see what was going on. They believe that they could have been and he has been appointed a neurologist to see him because with the type of hydrocephalus he has it’s common for the kids to have seizures. We are in the hospital now and what was happening was he has legions (cysts) in and around his brain that form because of the built up fluid that he has. From the last MRI that was done in December and the one now one of them has gotten larger and it’s become a problem. So, in order to help drain it the are doing another procedure to help the pocket that’s large and resting on his brain stem to drain into another pocket that will drain with the shunt he has.

The funds raised from this will help go towards medical expenses from all the procedures and specialists he has to see. Gas for mom and dad to go back and forth from the hospital home to the other kids and for Thomas to keep getting the care he needs as he will be in an out of the hospital a lot in his life with this condition.
