Support Tanvi's Dream: Baltimore Community Midwives
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Tanvi and I'm a certified nurse midwife in Maryland, USA. I am one of few CNMs doing home birth in the whole state of Maryland and I am one of two CNMs of color doing home birth.
I have decided to do the very courageous, but difficult thing of opening my own practice. This has been a long-held dream of mine - to provide non-judgmental, expert, compassionate care - opening a practice. It isn't easy and I do not have a partner to support me (many of my mentors described this as their saving grace when opening!) as I go through the messy, difficult, and cash-strapped start up days. So I am doing the second scariest thing after opening a practice, asking for help!
I know many of you have similar dreams that start with "One day, I'd like to..." and I was catapulted into making that One Day today when I lost my job August 2024. As Associate Chief of OBGYN, I attempted to support my pregnant patients with unequivocal trust and attempted to start a gender affirming care program that was much-needed in the Baltimore Community. Unfortunately, after writing a complaint about being bullied, I was fired by my bully himself who was very against my initiatives.
As a midwife, I have the privilege of being with people during important transitions - into menopause, into parenting, into the person they are destined to become on their own terms. With my deep knowledge of anti-racism, LGBTQ+ health, normal and abnormal birth, and community birth, I opened Baltimore Community Midwives in November 2024 and have been pushing forward since to make my One Day a reality Now.
I appreciate you taking the time to learn about me and my dreams and I hope to support yours one day too. Thank you for giving and I encourage you to share this fundraiser if you can!
