UPDATE 12/13/17
Dear supporters, it is with sadness that we notify you that our dear Barbara passed away on Dec 1, 2017. This is devasting for all of her family and friends, but even more so for her 4 children.

Now, more than ever, your help is needed so that we can help her children get settled into their new "normal" with as little trouble as possible. Please share this story with everyone you know.

Once again, thank you for all of your support. It is greatly appreciated.

Barbara Owens is one of the most pleasant and loving people you will ever meet. She has the amazing ability to make friends anywhere she goes without even trying. With her contagious laughter, spunky personality, and her kind heart, she is a “walking party”; bubbly, cheerful, positive and super funny. If you’ve never met her, you are truly missing out! Here’s her story…

In 2010 Barbara’s husband passed away leaving her with four minor children. Just a year later, as the family was still adjusting to their new “normal”, Barbara was diagnosed with breast cancer and she began a battle for her own life. Knowing she must fight because her kids needed her, Barbara began treatments that took her nearly to death’s door. But she is a FIGHTER! She won that round!

Barbara has become an advocate for breast cancer awareness. Over the past 5 years, she has inspired many with her willingness to participate in events that promote the cause. She trained and competed in Breast Cancer 2 Bikini, a fitness competition that gained national attention for inspiring breast cancer awareness and emotional healing after cancer. Barbara has also appeared in local media and events on multiple occasions to promote breast cancer causes.

Barbara’s lifestyle focuses on making family memories and enjoying life. She “makes” others step out of their comfort zones because life is too precious to sit around moping.

July 2017 marked a milestone for Barbara…five years without breast cancer.

It also marks a devastating blow to the Owens family as Barbara has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time, this time in her pancreas. While family and friends hold fast to our faith in God that healing is possible for her, we also understand that during this process she will face many challenges and the road ahead will not be easy.

Barbara is underinsured and the medical bills are piling up. She has been hospitalized twice in the last two weeks and this is just the beginning of this unexpected journey.

Our family is asking that you pray for Barbara and her children. Additionally, if you can find it in your heart to donate to this precious family to help ease the stress of monthly bills and medical expenses we would all be grateful. To date, we’ve spent nearly $9,000 out-of-pocket. We don’t know how much will be needed so we’re starting with 50K.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers,

The Owens and Mhoon families
